I Love Hosting!*

Last Friday our high school friends, Alyssa and Brent, who have been together as long as Daniel and I, came to visit us! For a long weekend at the beginning of the trip they brought along Rachel and James, who have also been dating since fall of 2005! (Pictured below from left is James, Rachel, Brent, Alyssa, Daniel and myself)

We kept busy the first few days- boating along Newport and sushi the first day. On Saturday they went to Universal Studios in LA. On Sunday we went to Disneyland- we are all Disney fans! Then on Monday we went to LA in the afternoon to watch a taping of Jimmy Kimmel! The picture above is from dinner at STK after the show taping!

I was excited to be a hostess again! Although I didn't cook any meals, I think I went above  being a host! I learned how to be a good host from my mom who more than most did holidays at our home and hosted a fair amount of birthday parties- along with two successful graduation parties!

When Daniel graduated from Ball State after the ceremony I had our families gather at our house to have some appetizers and cake before our dinner. Although it was crowded in our apartment I enjoyed having both of our families at our place for a small party that I got to put a few cooking items together along with some help from my mom!

Since we have moved here I have never had more then two people visit at once, so I was excited to host four friends! Last year we bought a trundle bed because I know it was hard for my parents to sleep on a mattress on the floor. It was also an excuse to give friends and family a reason to visit having a free bed! A couple of weeks ago we bought a $60 queen air mattress off Amazon! So the Sunday before they arrived I set up the guest bedroom! Notice the weekend itinerary on the pillows! I also had our wifi access info on a folded card in the bedroom (which is definitely necessary these days).

Attached to that bedroom is a bathroom that was completely clean and had fresh washcloths and towels! It didn't stop there! I knew they enjoyed coffee, so I set up a coffee bar and snack table in the dinning space!

Although there is the cake stand, I was unable to put the cupcakes that I always make for guests in there. This visit's cupcakes were special- I added coconut rum into a white cake mix. I topped the cupcakes homemade coconut rum icing! Not to brag, but they were the best cupcakes I have ever made! Come stay with me and chances are you will also get Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning as well! I really hope they enjoyed me being a hostess.

I get to host my dad for the 3rd time in April. The last time my dad visited I experimented with taco meatloaf! I'm not sure what our week will entail- maybe a Angels baseball game! Then in May I get to host for my sister, Ashley and her boyfriend, Matt! I had a blast the last time when she was visiting for her 20th birthday. This time we'll be meeting in Vegas for the first few days then back in Orange County for the rest of the week. I finally get to go to Disneyland with her! I also look forward to when we have a house and I can host holiday events (with cooking help from my mom!)
